being recognised, and it is in fact recognised.

The remaining point concerned pertain

apprehensions which (to 1) . Brawn

(to2) 7. Miach

(to 3) ar. Saul and dr. Brown

felt about the new age of retiredent.

It is true

that the decision has now been taken that for an experimental period of three ye rs, which is liable to be extended, the Hong Kong Government shall have the right to require an officer to retire at the age of 45 and that the officer shall similarly have the right to retire at that age if he so desires. This decision applies not only to the Police, but to all Departments of the Governdent Service. I should add that it is not intended that officers shall normally be required to retiro before the usual retiring age.

Yours sincerely,

(SQL.) D.R. MMMB-VILLIMAS.
